New partnership allows family and friends to gift rides to loved ones in need, regardless of distance
PHILADELPHIA, Pa. and GAITHERSBURG, Md. – November 19, 2018 – Healthcare transportation company Roundtrip and care organization platform LikeNeighbors.com today announced a partnership that allows family and friends to easily organize and gift all levels of medical transportation, even from hundreds of miles away. The partnership aims to create an online caregiving community that connects those in need of rides with relatives and friends who want to give them.
Riders can book rideshare via Lyft, medical sedans, wheelchair vans and non-emergency ambulances on-demand through Roundtrip’s online and mobile ordering system. No longer dependent on friends or volunteers, public transportation or other costlier options, riders enjoy a greater level of independence and flexibility. Riders and gifters also take comfort in knowing that they have a safe, reliable, and affordable way to get where they need to go.
“We make it simple for a caring daughter in Chicago to help her elderly father in New Jersey get to his medical treatments. We also provide ongoing rides for specialized populations, like paratransit riders, to get to the grocery store or the pharmacy. It is extremely meaningful for us to expand our mission to use transportation as a way to alleviate (not add to) burdens in time when care is more essential than ever” said Lindsay Tsai, Director of Client Growth. “Our partnership with LikeNeighbors.com lets other friends and relatives pitch in as well. The positive emotional, logistical, and financial impact this type of group giving has on a patient, the family and local caregivers can’t be overstated.”
Transportation is the second service that can be gifted via LikeNeighbors.com, adding to the platform’s current meal delivery option. More services will be added in the coming months, creating a full-service online gift registry for anyone going through a challenging time.
“When you live far away from a loved one navigating cancer treatment, recovering from surgery or grieving the death of a family member, you feel helpless,” explained Like Neighbors’ Founder and CEO Judy O’Connor. “You wish you could drop off dinner or give your friend a ride, but instead you’re stuck sending flowers and Facebook messages. LikeNeighbors.com makes it easy to help in ways that are truly meaningful and tangible, whether you live across town or across the country.”
To organize group giving on LikeNeighbors.com, users create a private care campaign that includes a description of the situation, photos, and requests for transportation and meal support. The link to the care campaign page is shared with family and friends nationwide, who can then purchase requested services online on behalf of the individual or family in need.
