Collaboration will integrate ridesharing technology with payment solutions for at-risk patient populations
PHILADELPHIA, PA (JUNE 3, 2019) – Roundtrip, leaders in driving better health outcomes by connecting healthcare and transportation providers, announces a ride-booking and payment plan partnership with the Patient Access Network (PAN) Foundation, a non-profit that helps underinsured patients cover their out-of-pocket costs. Since its founding in 2004, PAN has provided nearly 1 million underinsured patients with over $3 billion in financial assistance, through close to 70 disease-specific programs.
With the partnership in place, PAN grant recipients from three assistance programs – metastatic breast cancer, heart failure, and multiple sclerosis – can book rides through Roundtrip’s patient-facing online portal without having to pick up the phone. Our hope is to grow this program in the future and provide this assistance to even more patients.
“When a patient realizes that their two most complicated barriers to receiving quality healthcare are removed, they find themselves believing in the system again,” said Roundtrip CEO Mark Switaj. “We have admired the work of the PAN Foundation for several years and together we will be able to deliver efficient, affordable access to several key patient populations. And it doesn’t stop here—we aim to connect more patients to transportation services in the future.”
“We are excited to partner with Roundtrip as we strive to help patients overcome barriers to treatment,” said PAN President and CEO Dan Klein. “People with serious illnesses should not have to worry about getting to and from their doctor’s office or pharmacy. This partnership will help ensure patients keep their appointments, start and stay on treatment.” Roundtrip provides an intuitive online platform where patients can book on-demand transportation through a few simple steps. PAN patients also have the option of calling Roundtrip’s 24/7 Navigation Center to coordinate their rides over the phone. The Roundtrip technology quickly locates nearby drivers who are available to pick up the patient and sends real-time notifications about the status of the ride.
Roundtrip’s real-time response and navigation team will monitor all rides 24/7.
The PAN Foundation connects underinsured people with the healthcare they need. With close to 70 disease-specific funds, PAN helps patients with chronic, life-threatening and rare diseases overcome financial barriers to treatment. PAN’s mission aligns with Roundtrip, as both organizations prioritize the need to remove barriers to treatment, boost adherence and reduce patient “no-shows”, which have risen to 30 percent nationally, according to a report from SCI Solutions.
