Who is Phil Montanez?

Phil Montanez is Roundtrip’s Director of Operations. Phil oversees end-to-end operational execution, including service delivery, capacity management, vendor performance, and cross-functional coordination. He plays a critical role in ensuring that Roundtrip consistently delivers reliable, scalable, and high-quality solutions to health system and public-sector partners. His work focuses on performance management, reporting, and continuous improvement, equipping him with a disciplined, metrics-driven approach to operations.

Every day, you interact with patient transportation in a way unique to your role. What perspective on patient transportation/NEMT do you wish more people knew?

“Prior to joining Roundtrip, when I thought of medical transportation, I mainly thought of emergency ambulances, and I imagine a lot of people still think that way as well. While of course Emergency transportation is 100% needed, Non-emergency transportation is just as important in impacting health outcomes for individuals. Getting patients to their appointments, getting them to follow-ups after hospital stays or just getting them back home are all factor into individuals overall health. Getting to these places can make it so that hopefully these individuals don’t end up in an emergency situation where the patient doesn’t end up back in the hospital.”

What mentor or prominent figure has influenced you in your career and why?

“I’d answer this question with a book that has influenced me and my career and that would be GRIT by Angela Duckworth. One of the items discussed by the author was the concept that ‘effort counts twice’. There have been plenty times in my career or in life where I may not have always been the most traditionally ‘talented’, but I would always put in my full effort. One of my favorite quotes of the book is: “I’ll challenge myself every day. When I get knocked down, I’ll get back up. I may not be the smartest person in the room, but I’ll strive to be the grittiest.” As I think about my career and how it has evolved and will continue to evolve that’s the mantra I will take with any new challenge or new skill that I need to master.”

What do you enjoy about working at Roundtrip?

“I enjoy working with our dynamic and mission driven team. I know I can call on anyone on our team, and they would drop anything in an attempt to solve a problem that me or my team having. The supportive nature and willingness to tackle any problem make it easy to get up to go to work each morning as we try and remove transportation as a barrier to well-being.”

What do you enjoy doing in your free time?

“When I’m not in the office I am typically spending time with my two daughters (currently 6 and 4), my wife and our new dog. When I’m not spending time with the family, I love going out and exploring local trails for runs and eating at some of the great restaurants in the area! I’m also an avid NY Knicks fan… I’m hoping this year (2026) is the year we finally bring the NBA championship back to NY.”

If you could describe Roundtrip’s culture in one word, what would it be? Why?

“Supportive – My team is always there for me and I just know they are there to support our customers in the same way. Helping people tackle problems is what we do best and I am lucky to work for a company that cares as much for it’s clients as it does for its employees.”

If you could donate $1 million to any organization, what would it be and why?

“I’d probably split between a couple of different organizations but two that I would like to call out specifically are:

  • Chester County Food Pantry: Tackling food insecurity is one of the great problems of our time. Chester County Food Pantry (and others in Chester County PA) are doing great work in tackling the problem of food insecurity from multiple angles.”
  • American Cancer Society: I have seen firsthand from my father’s recent bout of cancer the impact the access to the right level of healthcare at the right time has on cancer patients and the families supporting the patient. ACS does great things to support both the patients and their families during what is the most difficult time in those individuals lives.
